August is a time of summer mischief<\/strong> and carefree enjoyment<\/strong>. Those who choose to seek holiday refreshment in Radovljica<\/strong>, and choose Kunstelj <\/strong>as their holiday base, are \u2018busy\u2019 from morning to night.<\/p>\n

If you already have itchy feet in the morning, take a walk to the confluence of the Sava Bohinjka and Sava Dolinka rivers<\/strong>, or a walk by the Sava river to the \u0160obec camp<\/strong> (the Sava River Trail is a marked path, which has various sights of interest and information boards). Others might hire a bike<\/strong> in the shop 18sedem3 <\/strong>and cycle to the Ribno ponds,<\/strong> whilst adrenaline junkies<\/strong> can join in some water-based fun at Tina Raft.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our Toni<\/strong> also set off on summer adventures<\/strong> in his youth. However, not on foot, but in father\u2019s frog<\/strong>! The legendary Citroen DS 19<\/strong> was his favourite car. Still today Toni loves to recall his adventures with the frog.<\/strong> One day in particular remains in his memory, when he managed to cross the stream<\/strong> beneath the Bode\u0161\u010de rock in the frog.<\/strong> The car had hydro-pneumatic suspension, which allowed adjustment of the ride height, thus enabling adventurous journeys<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Toni liked adrenaline<\/strong> in general. Therefore, he loved to spend summers at the Radovljica swimming pool<\/strong>, where he would jump into the water <\/strong>from the high diving board. Grandfather Tone <\/strong>used to say that the pool brought a real revolution to Radovljica<\/strong>. The swimming pool opened in 1933 <\/strong>and immediately became the town\u2019s main attraction since,<\/strong> at that time, it was only the third place in Slovenia to have a 50-metre swimming pool<\/strong>, the other two pools being the Ljubljana Ilirija<\/strong> and the Maribor Otok<\/strong>. It was designed by Ivan Vurnik <\/strong>and included an elegant tower<\/strong> (diving board) which, in the years that followed, became a tourist symbol of Radovljica <\/strong>on postcards and brochures.<\/p>\n

Toni loved the diving board<\/strong>. He jumped from the 10-metre high board head first<\/strong>, and from the lower 5-metre board <\/strong>he went a step further and jumped from a headstand<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

When the tower was demolished<\/strong> due to wear and tear, a small part of Toni\u2019s world was also lost.<\/strong> Only after a long 20 years<\/strong> did his grandchildren<\/strong> soften him and convince him to accompany them swimming<\/strong>, meaning he was once again back at the pool <\/strong>where he had once spent so many great moments.<\/p>\n

Through the addition of the swimming pool,<\/strong> Radovljica<\/strong> became a real tourist destination <\/strong>and the sport of swimming also began to develop. Numerous successful swimmers come from Radovljica<\/strong> and we are all very proud of our Olympic delegation,<\/strong> who, prior to leaving for Rio in summer 2016, were welcomed by Radovljica\u2019s mayor on the terrace at Kunstelj Inn.<\/strong><\/p>\n

However you choose to cool-off in August<\/strong>, allow yourself to have some fun.<\/p>\n

During the long winter evenings<\/strong>, in addition to Kunstelj\u2019s home-cooked delights<\/strong>, such memories will help keep you warm!<\/p>\n
