Every great love<\/strong> has its own story<\/strong>. And since March <\/strong>is a month dedicated to love, when we celebrate Women’s Day, Mother’s Day<\/strong> and Saint Gregory’s Day<\/strong>, we would like to share with you the love story<\/strong> of our grandmother Maria<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When there were no mobile phones and Facebook, the young people<\/strong> of Radovljica met and socialised at festivals<\/strong> and often also in the mountains<\/strong>. Our grandfather Tone<\/strong>, together with Slavko Avsenik<\/strong>, used to go to the Roblek <\/strong>mountain, as rumour had it that there were a lot of pretty<\/strong> young girls there.<\/p>\n

At that time our grandmother Maria <\/strong>was working in the Roblek mountain hut<\/strong>. She left home at the age of 14, and was earning her living at the Roblek hut. She was a hardworking, young <\/strong>and beautiful<\/strong> girl and when she met our grandfather they immediately liked each other<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When love comes knocking<\/strong> on the door, it is best to open it<\/strong> as quickly as possible. Our grandfather brought Maria to his home<\/strong>, they soon got married and the Slavko Avsenik <\/strong>band played<\/strong> at their wedding<\/strong>.\u00a0.<\/p>\n

1951<\/p><\/div>\n

Due to her great diligence, culinary skills <\/strong>and entrepreneurial spirit<\/strong>, Maria soon became the first lady<\/strong> at Kunstelj Inn. It soon became clear who had the last word<\/strong> in the house. Her special passion was ice-cream<\/strong>. She convinced our grandfather to buy an ice-cream machine, while she perfected a mixture of fresh, local fruit. The result was the legendary Kunstelj ice-cream<\/strong>, for which people waited in long queues in front of the Inn.<\/p>\n

Always organised, resolute, and unwavering, Maria<\/strong> was also an expert <\/strong>in the preparation of dumplings, bread<\/strong> and cakes<\/strong>. It is thanks to her that Kunstelj Inn became famous far and wide for its home-made food<\/strong>. Her recipes are still used today to continue the exceptional culinary tradition<\/strong> and honour her memory<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
